CAC approved. In an old, Series holder, and a very choice, original, beautiful coin. This obverse die was on it's 5th or 6th usage when this coin was struck, and the obverse strike - as you might well imagine - is rather blunt. Quite frankly, this die had no business striking coins, but such were the conditions at the early mint...use it 'till you can no longer use it, the results be damned! The reverse shows none of that, with that die being new, and able to produce a sharp, crisp impression, which it certainly did. Beautiful, original antique toning, smooth surfaces and plenty of luster define this "AU45". Though PCGS will never understand the obverse strike, the reverse is fully AU. What does that make the coin? Enjoy!
