A coin I really love. For years, I hunted for a very early die state example of this marriage, without luck. 18-106 is reasonably easy to locate, yet virtually every one I found was a later die state, without a solid (or better) central obverse strike. This die apparently wasn't hardened properly, and I assume it sank in the center. Here is the best central strike I can recall seeing on one of these. Plus...the coin is magnificent...original, solidly lustrous, beautifully toned and without distractions of any kind. A coin I thought long and hard about placing in my Box of 20, though I couldn't find anything I wished to part with! A good problem to have...for both of us! Full disclosure: CAC did not approve this coin. I have no earthly idea why.
