CAC approved. This is not only the lone CAC-approved example I've ever handled, it is also the finest example I've owned. Just beautiful, original and totally free of issues. In my book, this is the toughest R5 die marriage of 1827 - itself the toughest (by far) of any Overton year! This one also has a long history in the BHNC, having been a part of the John Tidwell Collection (sold by Sheridan Downey in MBS 24, lot 131. Then to the collections of Steve Herrman and James Ross, and then Downey again (MBS 48:53) to the Midwest Collection, from which it comes to us. This is Die State 124.1, per the BHNC's new die state handbook, "Die State Progressions of the Capped Bust Half Dollar Die Varieties 1807-1836", which is a very modest cost item, available right here on our website.
