CAC approved. Any 28-123 in PCGS XF CAC is a very rare coin, but this true prime example is the rarest coin I’ve offered in a long while. Herrman says 10 known. Over the years, we’ve owned and/or handled 2 of them, this being the third. This is a known example, though without prior sale records. There has been some confusion about the die states of this marriage, but I have documented the die chip at the inner right scroll return that grows progressively, albeit slightly, throughout the marriage. This die chipping can only stay stable or enlarge, but thankfully, it enlarged, which conclusively proves which die state came earlier and which came later. This state, with no obverse rim break and no reverse clash marks is therefore the prime. Oh, and the coin itself? It is a darn nice, original, appealing, problem free example!
