Here is a coin you really don't see very often. First, it is really well preserved, considering it circulated for some number of years in the hard-money, old west (as an aside, imagine some of the places this puppy has been). Then, there just aren't a huge pool of available candidates for some of these CC dollars - 82's, 83's and 84's are not easy to find thus, and 85-CC is almost impossible! Why, exactly? Well, these dollars weren't really needed in commerce then, but they were being minted in fairly large quantities due to the Bland/Allison act, which mandated their production. So, they were stored and not released, for the most part. Which set up a couple of things: The noted CC dollar dates are easier to find in Choice and Gem Unc than they are in low and middle grades, and the famous GSA hoard sales of the 1970's. A quick population stat or two to illustrate the point...1882-CC in PCGS VF30? There are currently 64 of them. How about in MS64? 14,285.
