CAC approved. Just like the Seated quarters and halves of the 1879 thru 1890 period, the quarter eagles of that era were produced only at Philly, and in very small numbers. The mintage of the 1887 is 6160 coins (the 1881 is the low champ here...only 640 business strikes made). Just like the quarters and halves (and 1879, 1880, 1881 nickels and dimes too), these are occasionally available in mint state grades, and circulated examples are tough. This coin is stunning for the assigned grade, which I think is low. My grade is 63+, and the originality is complete. The surface quality, color and luster are exceptional. I was frankly expecting a Gold CAC, but Green will just have to do.
