CAC approved. How nice it is when magnificent quality and significant rarity come together! Here is just such a time. This very late die state 103'b', is a Punctuated Date with a different dot of punctuation! Here's the timeline...the obverse die is put into service with a small, stray die dot showing between 1 and 7. It is located close to the 1, perhaps halfway up. Relatively early in the die's use, the dot wears away from some combination of normal usage and perhaps lapping, but - before long - the dot is gone. Striking of course, continues, though the coins produced are now known as 103a's (AKA the Punctuated Date sans Punctuation). They are very common, so we know many thousands were struck. At some point, well down the road, a new die dot appears. The Punctuated Date is back! Except this time, the dot is smaller, located lower and closer to the 7. Few of these were produced, but here is one of them. And the coin is drop-dead original, beautifully toned, softly lustrous and posses great eye appeal.
