Quite a nice, original and useful example for the Overton collector on a tight budget, or the die state collector. This is the latest die state described by the BHNC, and certainly the latest I've seen. The coin is deeply toned in antique golden gray with a touch of rose highlighting, and while the surfaces are generally quite smooth, they do show a few scattered, very light marks...all of which fit comfortably within expectations. A study of this coin gives a better understanding of what the mint staff was up against...failing dies and a production schedule to keep. This is Die State 114.5, per the BHNC's new die state handbook, "Die State Progressions of the Capped Bust Half Dollar Die Varieties 1807-1836", which is a very modest cost item, available right here on our website.
