1813 O.109a 'Single Leaf' R4 Capped Bust Half Dollar PCGS AU50 CAC
Lane Brunner Collection. CAC approved. About as late a die state as I can recall seeing, though I am not a believer in this as a Single Leaf. Never have been. Even as PCGS came around to the die state several years ago, and some folks paid fairly big money for an example. But this is fundamentally different than the 1812, 1814 and 1817 Single leaf varieties. Those all had full leaves to begin with, and as the die was lapped, the leaf detail was actually removed from the die. This leaf has simply gotten weaker thru die wear, and though faint, it remains fully outlined. So, I'm not on board. But I'm all about this particular coin! It is fabulous!! And we're not asking a variety premium, so please enjoy this as a lovely, original, beautifully toned AU 1813. Lane bought it in May 2014, source not recorded. This is Die State 109.2, per the BHNC's new die state handbook, "Die State Progressions of the Capped Bust Half Dollar Die Varieties 1807-1836", which is a very modest cost item, available right here on our website.
