1819 O.108 Capped Bust Half Dollar PCGS AU58+ CAC
CAC approved. There are 5 of these, according to the PCGS Population Report, but only 2 sales records, ever. This fabulous coin sold in Sheridan Downey's Jan 2024 sale for $3795, and we just took it trade towards from that buyer, who's collecting focus is changing. Late date 58+'s are reasonably available, but the earlier dates in 58+, not so much. This is a wonderfully choice, totally original, beautifully toned coin that is a credit to the holder and CAC sticker. Sheridan Downey's Jan 2024 description of this coin is found below. This is Die State 108.1, per the BHNC's new die state handbook, "Die State Progressions of the Capped Bust Half Dollar Die Varieties 1807-1836", which is a very modest cost item, available right here on our website. If you are familiar with the “look” of Louis Eliasberg’s bust halves you would swear this was among them. Not so. But it did grace the collection of Tom Sears, whose PCGS Everyman Registry Set was #1 before he broke up the collection. Luster spins beneath a crust of ancient silver-grey toning. You’ll have to tell me where the friction lies. The coin could easily grade MS 62 on another go-around at PCGS.
