1823 O.109 R5 Capped Bust Half Dollar PCGS VF25 CAC, ex. Brunner

CAC approved. From the Lane Brunner collection, earlier from Stephen Frank. Very pleasing quality for this truly tough die variety. In my 40 years of hunting for Bust half dollar varieties, this is the current R5 that I've found fewest of. I know others have had better luck, but my respect is undiminished. I think of this as R5+, and solidly so. He was a very accomplished person, and was most recently the Founding Dean of the School of Pharmacy at University of Texas, Tyler. He collected many things, but Bust half dollars were his true love. He assembled a collection of nearly 650 of them, including 440 die varieties, as well as many rare die states. His coins are uniformly choice and pleasing, with virtually all being PCGS graded, and more than half CAC approved as well. We mourn his passing at a very young age and miss him greatly, but we are honored to be handling the sale of the entire collection for his family.
