1825 O.104 R4 Capped Bust Half Dollar PCGS AU58
A truly lovely, choice, original, fully lustrous example of this very tough R4. Interestingly, there are a few really high grade ones (I had a 64 in my collection, and there is at least one 67 out there, along with a couple other gems), but if you want a PCGS AU58, the sale records provide no encouragement at all. Take a look at Herrman. There is NO SALE RECORD OF A PCGS AU58...EVER! Tim Osborne's AU55CAC (ex Jerry Schertz) may have been the closest, and it sold last year for $1600 (Downey, MB#54). But in spite of SD's description of it as a current-day 58, that coin shows actual wear. The coin I'm offering shows nothing of the sort, only a truly faint hint of rub on a high spot or two. A true prize for die variety collectors...you can be the only kid on your block with a PC58!
This is Die State 104.1, per the BHNC's new die state handbook, "Die State Progressions of the Capped Bust Half Dollar Die Varieties 1807-1836", which is a very modest cost item, available right here on our website. Please see our Numismatic Literature section, and get your copy today!
