Grade this rare subvariety by the reverse, since the obverse die has cracked and begun to sink, thus producing a less-than-fully-defined obverse who's center is higher than the rims. As a result, the rims could not protect the portrait from wear. The luster is XF all the way, and the coin is original and choice. This is Die State 140.2, per the BHNC's new die state handbook, "Die State Progressions of the Capped Bust Half Dollar Die Varieties 1807-1836", which is a very modest cost item, available right here on our website.
