1827 O.143 Square Base 2 Capped Bust Half Dollar PCGS AU55 (CAC)

CAC approved. An outstanding, totally original, beautifully toned coin, with a bit of a story. A fellow dealer and I bought this coin at a coin show some time ago, in a PCGS AU58 holder. We both thought there was an excellent shot at getting the coin regraded to MS62. Thus, we cracked it out, and dutifully sent it to PCGS. Four times. They graded it 58, then 53, then 55, then 55 again. At that point, we called it quits, sent it to CAC, and are now offering it for sale. We both still think there is less wear on this coin than on almost any Bust half in a 62 holder, but it is time to throw in the towel. They don’t all work, that’s for sure! One last thought…what I call the “LCG” (Lowest Conceivable Grade) for this coin is AU58. This coin is anybody’s 58…all day, any day. Except for PCGS recently.
