1836 O.122 Capped Bust Half Dollar PCGS XF40 CAC, ex. Dosier, Christie
CAC approved. This envelope (Elton Dosier's envelope) contains a wealth of Bust half history! Elton bought the coin in February 1971 for $14. His attribution and grade appear on the front (VF30...Elton was a confirmed conservative grader...we think of that more as a "proper" grader). At some point, the coin passed to another early BHNC member, Bill Christie. When his coins were sold by Sheridan Downey, this coin went to the next owner, unknown to me, in March 1994, at an apparent cost of UM. (Does the faint pencil on the front say "Phil N"??). In any case, the coin is truly lovely, and has that crusty, I've-been-in-a-kraft-envelope-for-a-generation-or-more look to it! This is Die State 122.1, per the BHNC's new die state handbook, "Die State Progressions of the Capped Bust Half Dollar Die Varieties 1807-1836", which is a very modest cost item, available right here on our website.
