1838 GR-1 Capped Bust Dollar NGC AU53

A very interesting die variety, which was once rated by Jules Reiver (quite a number of years ago, in his Variety Identification Manual - VIM, for short - published in 1988) as R8. That rarity has proven to be a bit exaggerated, and is now settled at R3 by Dick Graham. But, the variety has very impressive, extensive cracks on either side, and these dies couldn't have struck too many more coins after this present example. Oh, and the coin itself is nice, original and very attractive.
