1857-O F-102 Liberty Seated Dime PCGS MS62 Gen 2.1 Holder CAC, WOW
CAC approved, and contained in a Generation 2.1 "Frame Around" holder. A transitional holder type, taking the original Rattler shape, and adding an auxiliary plastic frame around it. That provided a couple of things. First, a stacking rim, which was sorely needed. Second, a flimsy, plastic frame that was prone to cracking, chipping and breaking entirely. This one is remarkably intact, though it does show some minor, interior crazing. In any event, this holder type was short-lived, and encompassed the Doily, this version, and a further, slightly different version as well, all in the scope of only 5 months (Sept 1989 thru January 1990), after which, the fundamental shape we have today was born. But wait...there is a coin in the holder! And, magnificent just seems to fall a bit shy of the mark. Honestly, I thought about sending this coin back to CAC for Gold review, but we're in such dire need of coins to sell, I simply didn't want to spend the time. For the record, I grade the coin 63+ and note that the eye appeal is outstanding.
