The Donald Frederick Collection of Capped Bust half dollars; Heritage Coin Auction, April 30, 2010, Milwaukee, WI

A new, unused copy of this important Bust half dollar auction. Lt CMDR Donald R. Frederick, Bust Half Nut Club member #11, was my sponsor when I joined the BHNC in 1993. He also provided the spark that started my interest in this fascinating series, when I met him at a coin show in Lanham, MD c.1983. Don was a bit of a character, a New Yorker through and through, and a very knowledgeable and willing teacher. He started collecting Lettered Edge half dollars in the days before Overton's First edition in 1967. He knew Al well, and I used to delight in hearing his stories of when Al stayed at his house, and they talked coins long into the night. Al died in 1972. Of the "old timers" that I had a chance to meet in person, Don was the longest-tenured. A great catalog of a very significant collection.
